STORAGE EXPERTS DESIGN NEW RFID LOCKERS TO INCREASE SPA CAPACITY

Scandinave Spa had two outdated change rooms with key operated lockers. When the keys frequently went missing, the spa would lose access to the lockers, reducing capacity in their pools, and shrinking their profit. They wanted to create a better system to manage their locker rooms so they reached out to the experts at Spacesaver Solutions.

Our Storage Expert worked with the staff at Scandinave Spa to design two beautiful new change rooms with lockers and benches that would maximize capacity, and RFID locks that would eliminate lost keys.

The lockers are two-tiered, and feature metal bodies and sleek high pressure laminate doors. Each locker has an RFID lock that works with branded Scandinave Spa wristbands. Patrons simply choose and empty locker to use, close the door, and place their wristband against the RFID lock to lock it. When they want access to their locker, they once again place their wristband against the RFID lock and the door will pop open.

In case spa goers forget which locker is theirs, they can use the RFID information terminals throughout the locker rooms to scan their wristbands and their locker number will pop up on the screen.

They now have access to all of their lockers with no issues of lost keys or capacity. The ROI for the locker project is less than one year with the additional capacity of 80 extra lockers, and eliminated costs of replacing keys and key barrels. The before and after photos are incredible and the change rooms now fit with the look and feel of the spa.

NEW LIBRARY SHELVING SHOWCASES AND PROTECTS ARCHIVES FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

In 1968 McMaster University Library acquired the archives and personal library of famed British philosopher, social and peace activist, and Nobel Laureate, Bertrand Russell. It has since become one of their most heavily used research collections with scholars from all over the world coming to McMaster to use the archives in their research.

UNIVERSITY WORKS WITH LOCAL ARCHITECTS TO DESIGN A NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of McMaster’s acquisition of the Bertrand Russell Archives, the University worked with local architects to design a state-of-the-art facility to house the collection. The facility, located at the University’s Sterling Street entrance, was formerly a private residence that was fully renovated and converted in just nine months.

The most important part of the renovation was making sure that the archives were properly stored and protected, so they reached out to the experts at Spacesaver Solutions Inc. 

A HIGH DENSITY SYSTEM, WOOD-TEK SHELVING AND DAY USE LOCKERS PROTECT AND BEAUTIFULLY DISPLAY THE ARCHIVES

Our Storage Expert met with McMaster’s librarians to design a solution to safely house Bertrand Russell’s large and diverse archives and a significant collection of books and other published materials across three separate areas. We designed a mechanical assist high-density system, Wood-Tek 4-Post shelving, and Day Use Lockers.

The University converted what was once a garage into a secure, climate controlled room, and we installed a mechanical assist high density system with recessed rails. This system maximizes the storage space in the room while ensuring the archives are properly stored and preserved.

In the reading room and a display area, we installed Wood-Tek 4-Post shelving to beautifully house much of the book collection. This shelving is a unique blend of wood and steel, featuring a wood front for a classic look, and a non off gassing metal frame to protect the collection. The system is completely adaptable and adjusts to the Library’s changing needs as the collection grows.

For the security of the collection, the University Library’s requirements included a place for researchers to store their personal belongings while in the Archives, We designed a metal bodied locker system with high pressure laminate doors and Digilock Axis Locks. The locks can be programmed for each new person and reset for the next researcher when they’re finished.

The librarians and staff are thrilled with their new space and systems that protect and display their collection.

The University Library has worked with Spacesaver Solutions Inc. on a number of projects over the years, but the Bertrand Russell Archives was something special. We’re delighted with the results both in the traditional compact shelving and the public areas of the archives, where the Wood-Tek shelving and Day Use Lockers allow us to showcase and protect the collection for future generations of researchers.

TORONTO LAW FIRM CREATES AN OPEN OFFICE CONCEPT WITH MOBILE FILING SHELVES

Thousands of inefficiently stored case files were creating a serious problem for a law firm in Toronto. The limitations of the law firm’s lateral filing cabinet drawers made it hard to store the large case files. As a result, they were stored in such a way that made it virtually impossible to find the right one without taking them all out and putting them all back in again. This led to plenty of wasted time and a very inefficient environment.

A MORE EFFICIENT MOBILE FILING SYSTEM

Employees needed to have quick, easy access to files and a more organized system needed to be put into place. In addition to organization, the law firm also wanted to create a more modern, aesthetically pleasing environment as well.

Based on referrals from other law firms in the area, the firm reached out to Spacesaver Solutions. Our Storage Expert surveyed the space, assessed the type and size of case files being stored, and created a storage solution that would increase capacity for file storage as well as space for other functions of the business, including additional office spaces for lawyers, attorneys and other employees.

Our Storage Expert designed a custom cabinet that would be used to store case files. The cabinet has six shelves, all designed to be the correct height for storing files, binders, and boxes at the same time without any need for adjustments. Unlike traditional cabinets, the center support frame was removed allowing staff to fully utilize each shelf.

MOBILE FILING SHELVES DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF FILES IN THE SAME SPACE

To eliminate case files being buried within shelves and impossible to find, Spacesaver Solutions installed bi-file mobile filing shelves. The new systems allowed two rows of filing equipment to be placed in nearly the same footprint.

The front shelf sections rest on a mobile carriage that travels back and forth, and the movement allows easy access to the back row of static shelving. With this system, the files are more compact and out of the way, yet offer 100% accessibility to any file that an employee would want or need to access.

MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS ARE ABLE TO USE THE MOBILE FILING SHELVING SYSTEM

File storage was further compacted through the use of three mechanical-assist mobile systems, which were installed to store records in the Accounting, Records, and Minute Book departments. In addition, one of the systems housed an elaborate legal library. Combined, the mobile systems held the entire collection of records and library materials while leaving space for future growth.

To aid with matching the mobile systems to the look and overall feel of the office, the mobile systems were outfitted with custom dual-entry wood veneer end-panels.

MORE PRODUCTIVE AND EFFICIENT WORK ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE OF MOBILE FILING SHELVES

With the newly organized mobile shelving solution, the law firm’s staff was more efficient and productive because the daily obstacle of locating files was eliminated. Due to the ease of navigation and less cluttered space, the employees were very pleased with the overall look and feel of their redesigned work environment.

NEW POLICE UNIFORM LOCKER ROOM GIVES PETERBOROUGH OFFICERS A BOOST

The Peterborough Police Service prides itself on serving the community in a professional, friendly, and helpful manner. They’ve provided assistance at over 130,500 service calls in the last 5 years, and work closely with community members to prevent crime before it occurs. Their work is paying off – the police service has a 97% approval rating by residents and crime rates are falling.

Those great outcomes don’t just happen though, they’re the result of a lot of hard work on the part of officers, Lieutenants, and support staff. Law enforcement personnel often face long, draining days and can burn out quickly in such a stressful environment. That’s why, when it was time to renovate the Peterborough Police Station, the police uniform locker storage room was a priority.

POLICE UNIFORM LOCKERS REASSESSED

Before the renovation, the Peterborough Police uniform locker room was less than welcoming. Officers were using outdated standard metal school lockers to store gear and hang clothing on pegs. With the wide array of gear officers now use on the job, the lockers weren’t as functional or pristine as they once were. After a long day on the job, the last place officers wanted to be was in a musty changing room trying to cram all their gear into an outdated uniform locker.

When planning for the renovation began, the Peterborough Police Service reached out to Gary Miskimmon, a sales rep for Spacesaver Solutions. With over 25 years of experience designing storage solutions for other public safety agencies, Gary assessed the items that were currently being stored in the police locker room and talked with officers about what other features could make the space more comfortable and functional.

MODULAR POLICE UNIFORM LOCKER STORAGE

The uniform locker room was outfitted with Freestyle Personal Storage Lockers to accommodate hanging uniforms, along with jackets, hats, and electronics. The uniform storage lockers also include shelves for duty belts, commonly used gear, and small weapons. The modular design of the lockers allows officers to adjust the layout based on their personal storage needs. For example, to accommodate helmets for officers who use bicycles. Additional shelves, bins, and dividers can easily be added by officers to support their changing needs.

POLICE UNIFORM LOCKER STORAGE USED TO STORE TACTICAL EQUIPMENT

A separate locker room was set aside to store gear and weapons for the Emergency Response Team (ERT). The ERT locker room also installed Freestyle Personal Storage Lockers, but with some modifications to suit their unique needs. Drawers were installed beneath the lockers to create additional storage space for bulky duty bags and boots. To truly maximize the space, benches were added to the top of the drawers to create a space for ERT members to dress and prepare for duty or wind down after a long shift.

In an emergency situation officers don’t have time to gather or search for missing items. That’s why it was important that all gear was in one area. Bars inside the lockers allow the ERT to hang uniforms, extra clothing, bulletproof vests, and other protective gear. The police uniform lockers are also designed with shelves and bins to accommodate radios, helmets, weapons and extra ammunition so officers can prepare quickly. Secure lock options and all-steel construction ensure that weapons and gear are accounted for at all times.

ORGANIZED POLICE UNIFORM LOCKERS CREATES SECOND HOME FOR OFFICERS

Peterborough’s officers are very pleased with the results of their new police uniform locker storage rooms. The updated lockers have not only streamlined and organized their gear storage, but have also made the locker room a comfortable place for officers to unwind after a hard day. With a better-equipped home base, Peterborough Police Service is better prepared to protect and serve their community every day.

MODULAR BIN SHELVING PROVIDES THE HOSPITAL PHARMACY STORAGE SUCCESS

When the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) was undergoing a renovation to its pharmacy, it had one goal in mind—to operate like the proverbial well-oiled machine. The current pharmacy was chaotic and cramped—not suitable for the minimum of 27 pharmacy techs that worked in the space at any given moment.

The goal was that the renovation would create a much more efficient and simple storage solution that would, in turn, result in a much calmer work environment. The need for everything to work in unison was a must, and that included working with the constant traffic in the room—techs wheeling carts in and out of the space, hundreds of bulk medications being unboxed and repackaged daily, and the arrival and stocking of many shipments throughout the course of a day.

MODULAR BIN SHELVING RESTORES ORDER

Pharmacy staff at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre turned to Spacesaver Solutions Inc. to see if upgrading their storage might have a positive effect. For the pharmacy to be organized and more productive, they needed a storage solution that matched their day-to-day challenges of the space. For this reason, we installed several modular bin shelving systems into the pharmacy. The color-coded bins could be switched out depending on what was being unpackaged and stocked that day, and the standardized, open bins made it easy to keep track of inventory.

The systems installed in the PRHC are outfitted with numerous rows of bins in different sizes so that like-sized items and supplies have their own place. To ensure security, the pharmacy has a narcotics vault separate from the rest of the storage. Inside the smaller protected area, a high-density version of FrameWRX modular bin shelving was incorporated. The system allows the front row of bins to slide to one side via a metal frame for access to additional bins behind it, creating double the storage in the same space.

EFFORTLESS LOCATION OF PHARMACY ITEMS

To accommodate bulky inventory and a large quantity of records, a different storage system—compact mobile shelving was installed. The system is equipped with Spacesaver’s PharmaStor end-caps, offering quick access to the most frequently used supplies without even having to enter the aisle. Every little bit of time savings helps—and the end-caps have proven to be convenient and efficient for the techs.

With the new storage systems in place, the pharmacy is simplified in a very well organized and productive way. Teams of techs move much easier up and down the aisles formed by FrameWRX, and locating items became effortless. The pharmacy at the PHRC began to run like the well-oiled machine—just as the staff had hoped.
