5 Ways Technology is Transforming Locker Rooms

5 Ways Technology is Transforming Locker Rooms

New Digital Tools are Changing The Way We Use Locker Rooms

When you think about the locker room, high-tech may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but with these new trends, the locker room as we know it is changing. These changes are subtle, seamlessly integrated, and silently improving the member experience. Check out these 5 technologies transforming our locker rooms.

1. Digital Printing Technology

Graphics are now being used to create a mood, engage members, and promote branding within the locker room. Easily printed on walls, plastic, glass, tile, locker laminates, and acoustical materials, the sky’s the limit.

Not only are graphics being found on locker room walls, digital printing is now being used in flooring. Print technologies allow clubs to extend flooring motifs used in other areas of the facility to the locker room. Locker rooms are no longer stuck with plain, functional flooring – they can be exciting too!

2. Smart Lighting

The locker room poses a special challenge because there is generally fewer windows in this space to create natural light. This makes smart lighting very important. Technology is now able to maximize the light that’s available, increase energy efficiency, and create an inviting environment.

LED lights are able to detect when the exterior light level rises and in response, reduce the output from light fixtures saving energy. You can even “tune” the colour of the bulbs, from warm white, to neutral, to cool depending on the feeling you want to create.

Smart lights are now scalable, wireless, dimmable, and sensor-based that allow you to control a single room, or the entire building! Keep lights off in rooms where there is no activity and have them turn on as soon as motion is detected.

3. High Tech Fixtures

Improve water efficiency and patron experience with digitally controlled sinks, showers, and toilets. These amenities allow owners to track water consumption from an app as well as create a personalized experience for clients.

Currently found in upscale clubs, these fixtures are becoming mainstream must haves. In the near future, a member can simply input their number in a keypad to have a personal setting automatically adjust the lighting, water temperature, and water pressure to their personal preference.

4. Rethinking Security

Security is one of the most important aspects of a locker room. Clients want the peace of mind knowing that the belongings they store in their lockers are safe and secure. Lock manufacturers have stepped up to the challenge and have come out with a wide variety of options that take security to the next level.

Choose from electronic keypad, RFID reader, mechanical combination lock, coin-operated, hasp lock, or keypad lock to suit your needs. Members can even open and close their lockers with a smartphone via low-power BLE (Bluetooth) or near-field communication. These locks are secure, user-friendly, and easy for staff to manage.

New locker management software allows operators to easily determine how lockers are used. Thanks to multiple lock modes, lockers can be made freely available to all users with a valid credential, can be designated as a personal locker, can be rented, and more.

5. A New Class of Lockers

New technology is taking lockers to the next level with beautiful designs and functionality including power, built in lighting, and even ventilation systems that will quickly dry clothes and uniforms!

On the exterior of the lockers you can choose from laminate, glass, plastic, and metal lockers with a variety of finishes and graphic options.

On the inside of the lockers, built in USB and outlets let clients charge their devices, while integrated lighting, shelving, drawers, and custom compartments are just a few of the many options available.

Bringing Sustainability to Automated Storage and Retrieval

Energy-efficient systems are the key to lowering energy consumption in your warehouse, office, or factory. The actual energy consumption of automated material and file handling systems has a major impact on operating costs, amortization, and our environment.

For this reason, Hänel has always placed great emphasis on continually optimizing the energy efficiency of their vertical storage systems. From carefully selecting high-quality components and technology, to using frequency converters that use up to 50% less energy than drives powered directly from the main power supply.

The Efficient Design Principle

The Lean-Lift stores all items in height optimized positions ensuring extremely compact storage in a minimum footprint. This optimal use of storage area results in energy savings.

The vertical carousel principle of the Hänel Rotomat is energy-efficient in its very design. Using the load imbalance indicator ensures the weight distribution inside the Rotomat is balanced. As a result, very little energy is required for a rotation or travel movement. And of course, the unit always picks the shortest route automatically.

Optimizing The Energy Balance with Intelligent Concepts

Hänel constantly develops components that contribute to improving energy efficiency. The latest developments in this effort are embodied in three new technology profiles:

Eco-Drive

The Hänel Eco-Drive helps to save energy and reduce costs. The frequency converter uses the energy of the descending extractor and converts it back into electricity. This is then fed back into the supply system and can be used again. Depending on the rate of travel, up to 40% of the energy fed in previously for the upward run can be returned to the supply network.

Eco-Mode

A vertical carousel that remains at standstill for long periods of time can be automatically switched to pre-set levels of standby mode chosen by the user. Systems are progressively closed down by the control system in four Eco-Mode levels. This reduces energy use to a minimum when the unit is not in operation.

Eco-Load

With Eco-Load, the Hänel microprocessor control system gives loading recommendations to the user. If these are followed, the distribution of the stored items is always evenly balanced. As a result, only minimal energy is then needed to start the storage carousel rotating.

Moving Partitions Provide Collaborative Space, Storage, and Display at a University

This university in Mexico City has a reputation for encouraging its students to respond to complex social challenges with creativity and innovation. That commitment to creativity is on full display in one of its design labs, where movable walls create a flexible space that serves as a collaborative work area, project display space, and secure storage for students’ personal belongings.

Day Use Lockers mounted on a carriage and rail system serve as the basis for the movable room dividers. The partitions can be pushed together at one end of the room to create a large, open space for guest speakers or other events, or they can be moved anywhere along the rails to create smaller spaces for collaboration or independent work.

The lockers are designed in a variety of sizes and configurations to accommodate personal belongings and students’ work in progress. The partitions also feature whiteboards and monitors to allow for collaboration. Lastly, furniture in the room are on casters to add even more flexibility to the space.

LEVPRO HELPS ELEMENTARY PE TEACHERS DOUBLE EQUIPMENT STORAGE ROOM

An elementary school’s physical education storage area was bursting at the seams. The PE department originally had two storage areas, but had to give one up for other school activities. Because of this, they had to cram all of their athletic equipment into one narrow room. This made it difficult to access the items they needed and wasted precious time for each class.

The teachers wanted a system that would allow them to spend more time on class prep, lesson plans, and teaching their students so they reached out to the experts at Spacesaver to help them save time searching for equipment in the crowded storage rooms.

The elementary school acquired a LEVPRO athletic storage system which allows teachers to store their equipment on shelving units that are suspended on an overhead track. The LEVPRO athletic storage system eliminates fixed aisles by placing each shelf on the track and allowing them to move the shelves back and forth with the simple push/pull of a handle. Wire racking makes up the top of the system and provides additional storage for bulky and oversized items.

The LEVPRO athletic storage system is quick and easy to install and was ready for teachers to stock with equipment the same day it arrived. The PE teachers have efficiently stored soccer nets, foam noodles, volleyballs, jump ropes, hula hoops and more. Most importantly, the new LEVPRO system helped the teachers clear the clutter and dedicate more time to their students.

Mobile Shelving Maximizes Space in Manhattan Showroom

Häfele America Co. manufactures and distributes high-end residential and commercial hardware. They recently designed a new showroom in Manhattan to showcase their innovative fittings, slides, and other products and needed help figuring out how to store their materials in a beautiful way. The design team was challenged with the new space as it was smaller than the previous showroom. In addition to the smaller space, the company’s product lines were expanding and more product would need to be displayed. The design team wanted every aspect of the showroom to reflect Häfele’s dedication to innovation and premium quality. So they called the experts.

A compacting showroom display was the perfect solution for this retail location. The display consists of a powered high density mobile system with custom millwork. The aisles can be opened and closed with the push of a button, making it easy to access all materials and samples. Space was created at eye level with elegant built-in lighting to beautifully display hardware, and drawers were added below for more hidden storage.

The clients were thrilled with the end result of the compacting showroom display. Christine Bengston, Senior Marketing Manager for Häfele America Co. who oversaw the design project said  It’s transformative. You can be standing in one aisle, talking about small items like hinges, and then you simply press a button and walk two feet over and you’re talking about massive sliding architectural hardware. This system is a key element in our showroom, providing us the flexibility for transforming our space.”

Bengston added that the Spacesaver system integrates perfect with Häfele’s mission and philosophy, providing an impressive and innovative experience to showroom visitors. “It’s always a ‘wow’ moment for our customers.” she said.
